Ayo Owolabi

About Ms. Ayo

Ayo is a gifted vocalist who studied voice, piano and guitar at Howard University. During her time there she was a featured soloist in Howard University’s Jazz Ensemble Afro Blue, a featured composer for the Kennedy Center’s Residency, Betty Carter Jazz Ahead where she studied under Jason Moran and Carmen Lundy. She was also most recently, Young Ella Fitzgerald on the HBO Documentary “The Apollo” and its subsequent album Ella’s 100th Live at the Apollo featuring: Liz Wright, Andra Day, Patti Austin and Ledisi.


After graduating she became a Strathmore Artist in Residence in 2020. During this time she also became a featured song writer for the 2020 Clinton Foundation Summit and a music teacher in Montgomery County Public Schools. She has been a guest instructor at the University of Pennsylvania, Howard University and continues to release and perform various styles of music as a vocalist, songwriter and instrumentalist in the DC Metro area and across the world. Her goal as an artist and educator is to heal others by empowering them to and share their experiences with the hopes that we as humanity see we are more alike in our various experiences of joy and pain. She believes because of this, we have more to gain from being honest with ourselves and each other.
