Nathaniel Wolff
About Mr. Nathaniel
Nathaniel Wolff is a DMV based oboist, pianist and educator who believes in music’s ability to create human connection and build community. He is currently the oboist for the wind quintet IGNIS, an ensemble dedicated to unlocking the expressive potential of the wind quintet by embracing and celebrating its heterogeneity. With IGNIS, Nathaniel won first prize in NOLA Chamberfest’s Emerging Artists competition and received a bronze medal at the 2023 Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition.Â
As an educator, Nathaniel has experience working with a variety of age groups. In his teaching, he aims to empower students, teaching them their own efficacy in and outside of music. He has privately taught oboe and piano to elementary through high school students. He has designed and taught classes for a variety of skill levels and ages, including masterclasses with the Maryland Classic Youth Orchestras and the Mid-Atlantic Concert Band Festival. At the University of Maryland, he served as a chamber music coach for undergraduate music majors.Â
Nathaniel earned his bachelor’s degree from University of Michigan studying with Nancy Ambrose King and his master’s degree from the University of Maryland, where he served as a wind quintet fellow, studying with Mark Hill. When he is not rehearsing or making reeds, you can find Nathaniel perusing the east wing of the National Gallery, watching Formula One highlight reels, or getting too invested during trivia night.
