
Laila Sermon
About Ms. Laila
Laila Sermon is an emerging flutist, educator, and arts advocate currently pursuing her B.S. in Music Education at Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University. A proud member of the world-renowned Marching 100, Laila also performs with the FAMU Flute Studio, Flute Ensemble, Symphonic Bands, and the FAMU Wind Symphony. She is passionate about merging performance with pedagogy and currently serves as the Advocacy Chair for FAMU’s collegiate chapter of the National Association for Music Education.
Laila began her artistic journey at the Duke Ellington School of the Arts and graduated from Suitland High School’s Creative Visual and Performing Arts program in the top 10% of her class. Her dedication to musical excellence and community service is reflected in her experiences as a private flute tutor, teaching assistant at Kingdom Flute Works Summer Camp, and music instructor for early childhood programs like Tunes 4 Tots and Joyland Indoor Playground.
She has performed and participated in numerous ensembles, conferences, and festivals including the Umoja Flute Institute, Towson University Honor Band, the Southern Maryland Youth Orchestra, and was a part of a feature group at the prestigious Midwest Clinic.
With a strong commitment to arts advocacy, Laila has represented her university at statewide events such as the Florida Music Education Association Advocacy Day at the Capitol and the Tallahassee Day of Learning. She aspires to inspire the next generation of musicians through culturally responsive teaching, artistic excellence, and a deep love for the transformative power of music.
